A composite photonic (band gap) crystal structure comprising a guide crystal (for trapping or guiding light) configured in a plane having a dielectric periodicity in at least a first direction in the plane; and barrier crystals configured above and below the guide crystal to confine light within the guide crystal, the barrier crystals having a dielectric periodicity in at least a second direction not in the plane. In another embodiment, there is provided a composite photonic crystal structure comprising a guide crystal configured in a plane having a dielectric periodicity in at least one dimension; and a barrier crystal configured adjacent the guide crystal to confine light within the guide crystal, the barrier crystal having a dielectric periodicity in at least two dimensions.
L'invention porte sur une structure composite de cristal photonique (largeur de bande interdite) comprenant un cristal guide (de capture et de guidage de la lumière) configuré en un plan présentant une périodicité diélectrique dans au moins une première direction du plan, et sur des cristaux barrières disposés sur et sous le cristal guide pour y confiner la lumière, les cristaux barrière présentant une périodicité diélectrique dans une autre direction différente de celle du plan. Une autre exécution porte sur une structure composite de cristal photonique comprenant un cristal guide configuré en un plan présentant une périodicité diélectrique dans au moins une dimension, et sur un cristal barrière contigu au cristal guide pour y confiner la lumière, le cristal barrière présentant une périodicité diélectrique dans au moins deux dimensions.
