-50- Abstract of the Disclosure A composite shirred casing article and method with enhanced physical properties derived from more than one shirred source. Two or more shirred casing lengths of different material are arranged in tandem to form a common bore of sufficient diameter to re- ceive a stuffing horn. An unshirred end of one casing length is passed through the bore of the other and joined with an unshirred end of the other so, that stuffing deshirrs both casing lengths to form an encased food product in a double-walled casing. The product-related casing parameters are designed to suit the particular end use requirements while the dimen- sion-related parameters of the two casings complement each other to produce a tight wrinkle-free encased food product.
