A reinforced structural member (18) has a w-shaped reinforcement member (32) that carries a thermally expandable resin based material (36). The w-shaped reinforcement member (32) is placed in the channel (34) of a hollow structural member (20) over a transverse pin (30) which fits through the slot of the reinforcement member (32). The structural member (20) is heated to expand the resin based material (36) which locks the reinforcement member (32) in place, thereby significantly strengthening the structural member.

Cette invention concerne un élément structurel renforcé (18) possédant un élément de renfort en forme de W (32) servant de support à un matériau (36) à base de résine et thermiquement dilatable. L'élément de renfort en forme de W (32) est placé dans la cannelure (34) d'un élément structurel creux (20) et par-dessus une tige transversale (30) s'emboîtant dans une fente pratiquée dans l'élément de renfort (32).
