A yarn core (10) construction suitable for forming a flexible composite yarn having a fiberglass component (16). The resulting yarn has good cut and abrasion resistance qualities without sacrificing knitability, flexibility and suppleness. A normally hard to knit fiberglass strand (16) is wrapped with a sheath strand (18) at a rate of at least 8 turns per inch. The core (10) thus formed provides all of the benefits of a fiberglass supported yarn without experiencing any of the manufacturing difficulties normally associated with fiberglass yarns. The core (10) may also be provided with a multi-layer covering (20, 22) to balance the yarn and to further improve knitability.

Cette invention se rapporte à une structure d'âme (10) de fil convenant à la production d'un fil composite flexible, comprenant un composant (16) en fibre de verre. Le fil résultant présente une bonne résistance aux coupures et à l'abrasion sans que son aptitude à être tricoté, sa flexibilité et sa souplesse ne soient diminuées.
