Formulation of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) with pulverized recycled rubber-like material, and optimally a compatibilizing agent is described for application to railroad tie construction and other products. Desirably, the attractive formulation provides useful products from recycling of plastic PET bottles and discarded tires which greatly benefits the environment. The formulation can be foamed during an extrusion process to reduce the density of the composite so as to be even more economically attractive. Optional use of branching-chain extension agents and/or hydrolytic stabilization additives can also be used in the formulation for further benefits.

L'invention concerne la formulation de polyéthylène téréphthalate recyclé (PET) par un matériau similaire à du caoutchouc pulvérisé recyclé et obtenir de manière optimale un agent de compatibilité pour l'application à la construction de traverses de chemin de fer et d'autres produits. De préférence, la formulation concerne des produits utiles depuis le recyclage de bouteilles PET plastique et de pneumatiques mis au rebut qui profitent avantageusement à l'environnement. La formulation peut mousser lors du procédé d'extrusion en vue de réduire la densité du composite, de manière à ce que ce soit encore plus intéressant économiquement. L'utilisation facultative d'agents d'extension de chaîne-ramification et/ou d'additifs de stabilisation hydrolytique peut également servir dans la formulation pour en tirer d'autres bénéfices.
