The invention relates to catalytically bleaching substrates, especially laundry fabrics, with atmospheric oxygen or air. A method of bleaching a substrate is provided that comprises applying to the substrate, in an aqueous medium, a specified ligand from a selected class which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of the substrate by atmospheric oxygen. Also provided is an aqueous bleaching composition substantially devoid of peroxygen bleach or a peroxy-based or generating bleach system. Also provided is a method of treating a textile such as a laundry fabric whereby a complex catalyses bleaching of the textile by atmospheric oxygen after the treatment. The catalyst may be used in dry form, or in a liquor that is then dried, such as an aqueous spray-on fabric treatment fluid or a wash liquor for laundry cleaning, or a non-aqueous dry cleaning fluid or spray-on aerosol fluid. The method can confer cleaning benefits to the textile after the treatment. Also provided is a dry textile having a catalyst applied or deposited thereon, whereby bleaching by atmospheric oxygen is catalysed on the textile.
L'invention concerne des substrats de blanchiment agissant par voie catalytique, particulièrement, des tissus pour blanchissage avec de l'oxygène ou de l'air atmosphérique . L'invention traite également d'un procédé de blanchiment d'un substrat qui consiste à appliquer au substrat, dans un milieu aqueux, un ligand spécifié à partir d'une classe sélectionnée qui forme un complexe avec un métal de transition, ce complexe catalysant le blanchiment du substrat par l'oxygène atmosphérique. L'invention a aussi pour objet une composition de blanchiment aqueuse sensiblement dépourvue d'un système de blanchiment générant ou à base de péroxy ou d'agents péroxygénés . L'invention a aussi pour objet un procédé de traitement d'un textile tel qu'un tissu pour blanchissage selon lequel un complexe catalyse le blanchiment du textile par l'oxygène atmosphérique après le traitement. Ce catalyseur peut être utilisé sous forme sèche, ou dans une liqueur qui est ensuite séchée, comme un fluide de traitement aqueux à pulvériser sur un tissu, ou une liqueur de lavage pour le blanchissage, ou un fluide nettoyage à sec non aqueux ou un fluide aérosol à pulvériser. Ce procédé confère des avantages de nettoyage au textile après le traitement. L'invention traite également d'un textile sec sur lequel un catalyseur est appliqué ou déposé, selon lequel le blanchiment par l'oxygène atmosphérique est catalysé sur le textile.
