986.013 Title: COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING VOLUME IN FILLED RESINOUS SYSTEMS Inventor: JOHN A. HEINEN ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Shrinkage occurring in filled resinous systems prior to set can be controlled by incorporating therein certain blowing agents of the type that normally generate gas as a consequence of thermal decomposition, and/or activators for such agents, in the filled resinous system and causing a comparative positive volume change in the system without the application of external heat to the system and without the development of any significant exothermic heat. Thus, selected additive chemical blowing agents generate gas in the filled resinous system to affect its volume, with or without the presence of activators, although maximum exotherms recorded are far below the lowest heat decomposition requirements of the conventional blowing agents utilized and no external heat is applied. Certain selected known activating agents for chemical blowing agents when used alone without the blowing agent have also shown unexpected abilities to affect the volume of filled resinous systems. The additive agents may be blended with the fillers for the resinous material in varying amounts to achieve a reduction or elimination of shrinkage or to expand the filled system. Epoxy grouts and mortars incorporating various selected blowing agents with or without activators are exemplary.
