ABSTRACT Organic coatings may be removed from masonry and other building surfaces by treatment with a composition in the form of a paste comprising a NaPEG reagent, a compatible polar solvent and a finely divided particulate material. The organic coating is contacted with the composition for a time sufficient to degrade the organic coating. The degraded coating is then scraped off and discarded.
