COMPOSITION AND USE THEREOF FOR TOPICAL TREATMENT OF DAMAGED OR DISEASED TISSUE ABSTRACT In accordance with the present invention, a composition and use thereof is provided for topically treating damaged or diseased tissue. The present invention comprises an aqueous gel or a pharmaceutically acceptable topical carrier containing an effective amount of an acid mucopolysaccharide. The composition containing the aqueous gel is liquid at room temperature and a gel at body temperature, thereby providing a composition that can be easily applied to the damaged or diseased tissue. After topical application to the tissue, the composition according to the present invention provides a covering over the tissue that protects the tissue and accelerates healing.
