Abstract of the Disclosure A method of controlling the build-up of inorganic mineral scale de- posits in an aqueous system; which comprises incorporating into said system at least 0;0005% by weight of at least one sulfonated anti-scale compound of the formula Image wherein A+ is an alkali metal or ammonium ion, R is an alkaryl group having 6 to 18 carbon atoms in its alkyl moiety, or a saturated or unsaturated ali- phatic hydrocarbon group having 8 to 20 carbon atoms, and n is a number from 1 to 10.
