A delaminated and deslimed pigment is bulked with small and controlled quantities of a cationic polyelectrolyte such as polydimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride to produce a highly bulked pigment ideal for improving printability, opacity and sheet gloss in coated paper applications, particularly for LWC rotogravure papers.
