The present invention relates to the length of telomeres and the role of hnRNP A1, UP1 or derivatives thereof. More particularly, the present invention relates to hnRNP A1, UP1 or derivatives thereof to maintain or alter the length of telomeres in cells. The present invention also relates to methods and compositions for increasing or decreasing the proliferative capacity of cells and to delay or precipitate the onset of senescence. The invention further relates to hnRNP A1 or UP1 or derivatives thereof as pharmaceutical, therapeutic and diagnostic reagents.

Cette invention se rapporte à la longueur des télomères, ainsi qu'au rôle que jouent le hnRNP A1, l'UP1 ou leurs dérivés sur les télomères. Cette invention concerne plus particulièrement un hnRNP A1, un UP1 ou des dérivés de ces derniers, lesquels sont utilisés afin de maintenir ou de modifier la longueur de télomères dans des cellules. Cette invention concerne également des procédés et des compositions qui permettent d'accroître ou de diminuer la capacité de prolifération cellulaire, et de retarder ou de précipiter le déclenchement de la sénescence. Cette invention concerne enfin l'utilisation de hnRNP A1, de UP1 ou de dérivés de ces derniers en qualité de réactifs pharmaceutiques, thérapeutiques et diagnostiques.
