The potential hazards of acraldhyde make its direct handling for combatting microbial, vegetable and animal pests in the water and ground difficult. According to the invention, use is made of a composition releasing acraldhyde in contact with water at the point of use. The composition of the invention contains an acraldhyde acetal, preferably 2-vinyl-2, 3-dioxolane, and a compound hydrolysable to an acid with a pK S of lower than 4, especially one from the range of organic acid anhydrides, organic acid halides and inorganic halogen compounds forming hydrogen halides on hydrolysis.

L'utilisation de l'acroléine pour lutter contre les parasites microbiens, végétaux et animaux dans l'eau et le sol pose des problèmes, en raison des risques que présente la manipulation directe de ce produit. Conformément à l'invention, on utilise une composition facile à manipuler, libérant de l'acroléine par contact avec l'eau, juste à l'emplacement de l'utilisation. La composition selon l'invention renferme un acroléine-acétal, de préférence le 2-vinyl-1, 3-dioxolane, et un composé hydrolysable en un acide, à un pK inférieur à 4, en particulier un composé de la série des anhydrides d'acides organiques, des halogénures d'acides organiques et des composés halogénés inorganiques formant des hydracides par hydrolyse.
