A composition for enhancing hair growth which comprises a compound represented by the following formula (I) as an active ingredient: Image (I) wherein R1 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R represents an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having 2 to 6 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group having 3 to 8 carbon atoms and X represents -O- or -NH- and a carrier or diluent acceptable for topical composition. The composition for enhancing hair growth of the present invention has a hair growth enhancing activity and therefore is useful as a hair growth preparation.
