A composition for improving intestinal flora according to the invention comprises 1-kestose as an active ingredient. Further, according to the invention, a growth agent for lactic acid bacterium which allows both bifidobacterium and lactic acid bacterium to simultaneously grow and contains 1-kestose as an active ingredient is provided. According to the invention, by allowing intestinal bacteria which work to benefit humans, particularly both bifidobacterium and lactic acid bacterium to grow, intestinal flora can be improved.
