Composition décapante comprenant, en volume; 1 à 20% d'un solvant polaire aprotique choisi dans le groupe consistant en: diméthylsulfoxyde, diméthylformamide, N-méthyl-pyrrolidone, N-méthyl-morpholine, .gamma.-butyrolactone, acétonitrile et leurs mélanges; et 99 à 80% d'un éther choisi dans le groupe consistant en: méthyl-tert-butyléther, diéthyléther, tert-amylméthyléther, tétrahydrofuranne, dioxane, et leurs mélanges. Cette composition est utile pour décaper les peintures, notamment les peintures du secteur du bâtiment.
