The invention concerns a composition for preserving micro-organisms in specific amounts comprising at least a substance capable of forming the skeleton of lens-shaped lozenges, at least a saturating substance and predetermined and reproducible amounts of micro-organisms. Said composition, in the form of lozenges, can be used as reference material for controlling the reliability of microbiological methods or for controlling the fertility of microbiological culture media.
