ABSTRACT This invention relates to a method for loading a streptavidin-coupled liposome with a bioactive agent, the liposome being surrounded by an ex- ternal aqueous medium, comprising the steps of (a) producing a transmem- brane potential with an orientation which will load the bioactive agent into the liposome; and (b) admixing the bioactive agent with the liposome in the external aqueous medium. The bioactive agent may be an anti- neoplastic agent such as daunorubicin, doxorubicin, vinblastine, vincristine, cisplatinum or cyclophosphamide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or derivative thereof.
