A method of preventing and/or reducing deposition of denatured proteins on a contact lens while worn on the eye involves dispensing in the eye an ophthalmically compatible composition including tromethamine in an amount effective to prevent or reduce protein denaturation. The compositions preferably include a demulcent, and may include conventional eye drop components such as a preservative, a buffering agent, a chelating agent, an osmolality adjusting agent, and/or a surfactant.

L'invention concerne une méthode permettant de prévenir et/ou de réduire le dépôt de protéines dénaturées sur une lentille de contact lorsque celle-ci est posée sur l'oeil. La méthode décrite dans cette invention consiste à mettre, dans l'oeil, une composition ophtalmique contenant de la trométhamine en quantité suffisante pour empêcher ou réduire la dénaturation des protéines. Les compositions privilégiées dans cette invention contiennent un émollient et peuvent contenir des composants de gouttes ophtalmiques classiques, tels qu'un conservateur, un tampon, un agent chélatant, un agent régulateur de l'osmolalité et/ou un tensioactif.
