Compositions and methods are provided for intranasal delivery of interferon- .beta. yielding improved pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic results. In certain aspects of the invention, the interferon-.beta. is delivered to the intranasal mucosa along with one or more intranasal delivery-enhancing agent(s) to yield substantially increased absorption and/or bioavailability of the interferon-.beta. and/or a substantially decreased time to maximal concentration of interferon-.beta. in a tissue of a subject as compared to controls where the interferon-.beta. is administered to the same intranasal site alone or formulated according to previously disclosed reports. The enhancement of intranasal delivery of interferon-.beta. according to the methods and compositions of the present invention allows for the effective pharmaceutical use of these agents to treat a variety of diseases and conditions in mammalian subjects.
L'invention concerne des compositions et des méthodes destinées à l'administration intranasale de l'interféron .beta. et permettant d'obtenir des résultats pharmacocinétiques et pharmacodynamiques améliorés. Dans certains aspects de l'invention, l'interféron .beta. est administré dans les muqueuses nasales conjointement avec un ou plusieurs agents favorisant l'administration intranasale en vue d'obtenir une absorption et/ou une biodisponibilité accrue de l'interféron .beta. et/ou une durée sensiblement réduite pour atteindre la concentration maximale de l'interféron .beta. dans un tissu d'un sujet, par comparaison avec les sujets de référence chez lesquels l'interféron .beta. est administré par la même voie intranasale de manière isolée ou préparé conformément à la technique antérieure. L'amélioration de l'administration intranasale de l'interféron .beta. selon les méthodes et compositions de la présente invention permet une utilisation pharmaceutique efficace de ces agents pour traiter une pluralité de maladies et d'états pathologiques chez des sujets mammifères.
