Methods for the specific and highly sensitive detection of <i>Treponema pallidum</i> infection comprising the use of specific antigenic proteins and peptides unique to <i>Treponema pallidum</i> are provided. In particular, detection assays based recognition of acidic repeat protein are provided. The methods of the present invention are particularly useful for detection of primary syphilis at early stages of infection. In addition, the methods and compositions of the present invention are directed to the differential detection of specific <i>Treponema</i> infections enabling the identification of causative agents for specific <i>Treponema</i> disease states: syphilis <i>Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum</i>, yaws <i>Treponema pallidum subspecies pertenue</i>, and bejel <i>Treponema pallidum</i> subspecies <i>endemicum</i>.
L'invention concerne des procédés de détection spécifique et ultrasensible d'infection par le <i>Treponema pallidum</i>, qui consistent à utiliser des protéines antigéniques spécifiques et des peptides propres au <i>Treponema pallidum</i>. L'invention concerne en particulier la reconnaissance de protéine de répétition acide, à partir d'essais de détection. Les procédés considérés sont particulièrement utiles pour la détection de la syphilis primaire aux premiers stades de l'infection. Par ailleurs, les procédés et les compositions décrits assurent une détection différenciée des infections spécifiques par le <i>Treponema</i> qui permet d'identifier les agents responsables des états pathologiques spécifiques au <i>Treponema</i>, à savoir : syphilis (sous-espèce <i>pallidum</i> du <i>Treponema pallidum</i>, pian (sous-espèce <i>pertenue</i> du <i>Treponema pallidum</i>, et syphilis endémique (sous-espèce <i>endemicum</i> du <i>Treponema pallidum</i>.
