We have identified a new variant of ileal bile acid binding protein (IBABP), designated IBABP-L, which is a biomarker for colorectal cancer. The transcript for IBABP-L arises from an alternative start site and includes three exons that are absent in IBABP. IBABP-L also shares part of a fourth exon with IBABP. The protein encoded by IBABP-L contains a deduced 49 residue N- terminal sequence that is not found in the IBABP protein. The present invention provides methods for diagnosing colorectal cancer and other compositions and methods based on this discovery.

Selon la présente invention, une nouvelle variante de la protéine de fixation aux acides biliaires iléaux (IBABP), désignée par l~IBABP-L, un biomarqueur du cancer colorectal, a été identifiée. Le transcrit de chaque IBABP-L provient d~un autre site de démarrage de la transcription et comprend trois exons qui sont absents dans l~IBABP. L~IBABP-L partage aussi une partie d~un quatrième exon avec l~IBABP. La protéine codée par l~IBABP-L contient une séquence N-terminale réduite de 49 résidus qui n~est pas présente dans la protéine IBABP. L~invention porte sur des procédés permettant de diagnostiquer un cancer colorectal et d~autres compositions reposant sur cette découverte.
