Compositions and methods for emulsifying a petroleum product that has been spilled upon a portion of the earth's surface are based upon use of a nonionic, primary surfactant composition comprising a first ethoxylated sorbitol oleate and, preferably, a second ethoxylated sorbitol oleate, and a nonionic, secondary surfactant that is capable of stabilizing and solubilizing the primary surfactant composition such that the resulting emulsifying compositions have a hydrophilic/lipophilic balance between about 12.0 and about 13.5.
L'invention a trait à des compositions ainsi qu'aux techniques correspondantes permettant d'émulsionner un produit pétrolier répandu sur une partie de la surface de la Terre. Ces techniques reposent sur l'utilisation que l'on fait d'une composition à base d'un tensioactif primaire et non ionique comprenant un premier et, de préférence, un second oléate de sorbitol éthoxylé ainsi qu'un tensioactif secondaire non ionique capable de stabiliser et de solubiliser la première composition à base de tensioactif primaire de telle sorte que les compositions émulsifiantes résultantes possèdent un équilibre hydrophilie/lipophilie compris entre environ 12,0 et environ 13,5.
