Compositions for improving the health of a subject comprise alpha-(l,2)- branched alpha-(l,6) oligodextrans, preferably with an average molecular weight between about 10 kDa and 70 kDa, between about 10% and 50% alpha-(l,2)-osidic side chains, and having at least partial indigestibility in the subject. Methods for improving the health of a subject comprise administering the composition to a subject in an amount effective to improve gut health, or to prevent or treat a gastrointestinal disorder, a cholesterol-related disorder, diabetes, or obesity. Methods for making oligodextrans having controlled size and controlled degree of branching comprise providing alpha-(l,6) oligodextrans having an average molecular weight between 0.5 and 100 kDa and introducing at least 10% alpha-(l,2)-osidic side chains onto the alpha-(l,6) oligodextrans.
La présente invention concerne des compositions destinées à améliorer la santé d'un sujet comprenant des alpha-(1,6)-oligodextranes alpha-(1,2)-ramifiés, ayant de préférence un poids moléculaire moyen entre environ 10 kDa et 70 kDa, entre environ 10 % et 50 % de chaînes latérales alpha-(l,2)-osidiques, et étant au moins en partie indigestes pour le sujet. L'invention concerne également des procédés pour améliorer la santé d'un sujet comprenant l'administration de la composition à un sujet en une quantité efficace pour améliorer la santé des intestins, ou pour prévenir ou traiter un trouble gastrointestinal, un trouble lié au cholestérol, le diabète, ou l'obésité. L'invention concerne enfin des procédés de fabrication d'oligodextranes ayant une taille contrôlée et un degré de ramification contrôlé comprenant les étapes consistant à fournir des alpha-(l,6)-oligodextranes ayant un poids moléculaire moyen entre 0,5 et 100 kDa et à introduire au moins 10 % de chaînes latérales alpha-(l,2)-osidiques sur les alpha-(l,6)-oligodextranes.
