Compositions and methods for the deposition of ettringite (3CaO.A12O3.3Ca(SO4).30-32H2O) onto the surfaces of fibers, aggregates, and other fillers. The ettringite is produced in situ within an aqueous suspension while in proximity to the fibers, aggregates, or other fillers to form a mineralized composite material comprising ettringite coated fibers, aggregates or other fillers. Ettringite treated fibers, aggregates, or other fillers are formed by adding chemical reactants such as calcium oxide and aluminum sulfate, which react together in the presence of water to form ettringite, which then precipitates onto the surface of the fibers or other substrates being treated. The ettringite treated fibers, aggregates or other fillers can be added to hydraulically settable materials to improve the chemical and mechanical bond between the fibers or other substrates within the resulting hardened hydraulically settable composite material, particularly a cementitious or concrete material.
L'invention porte sur des compositions, ainsi que sur les techniques correspondantes, permettant de déposer de l'ettringite (3CaO.Al¿2?O¿3?.3Ca(SO¿4?).30-32H¿2?O) à la surface de fibres, d'agrégats et d'autres matières de charge. L'ettringite est produite in situ dans une suspension aqueuse mais à proximité des fibres, agrégats et autres matières de charge, afin de former un matériau minéralisé composite, comprenant des fibres, des agrégats et d'autres matières de charge enrobées d'ettringite. On met au point ces fibres, agrégats et autres matières de charge traités à l'ettringite, par adjonction de réactifs chimiques, de l'oxyde de calcium et du sulfate d'aluminium par exemple, qui, réagissant ensemble en présence d'eau, donnent de l'ettringite et précipitent ensuite sur la surface des fibres ou des autres agrégats en cours de traitement. On peut ajouter les fibres, agrégats et autres matières de charge traités à l'ettringite, à des matériaux à prise à l'eau afin d'améliorer le liaisonnement chimique et mécanique entre les fibres ou les autres substrats au sein du matériau composite résultant, à prise à l'eau et durci, un matériau cimentaire ou du béton, notamment.
