This invention provides a novel purified TGF-.beta. binding glycoprotein, endoglin, and isolated nucleic acid molecules that encode amino acid sequences corresponding to the TGF-.beta.-binding glycoprotein. Also provided is soluble endoglin-derived poly- peptide, and fragments thereof. A pharmaceutical composition which comprises the purified endoglin-derived polypeptide or produced recombinantly methods and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is further provided as well as methods of treating pa- tients by administering to the patient the pharmaceutical compositions of this invention.
