The present invention provides compositions, methods and kits useful for the amplification of nucleic acid molecules from human (3-retrovirus by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Specifically, the invention provides compositions and methods for the amplification of nucleic acid molecules in a one or two-step real time RT-PCR procedure using reverse transcriptase, DNA polymerase, or a combination of both enzymes. The invention provides for the rapid and efficient amplification, detection and quantification of human 0-retrovirus nucleic acids.
