The present invention generally relates to compositions and methods of use for a fibroblast growth factor ("FGF"). More particularly, the present invention relates to a nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of FGF-20, and its fragments, derivatives, variants, homologs, and analogs, as well as their uses in wound healing, and prevention and/or treatment of certain diseases, including but are not limited to, stroke, radiation sickness, mucositis, inflammatory bowel disease, and inflammation (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis).
