Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs which have been substituted with a nitrogen monoxide group; compositions comprising: (i) a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, which can optionally be substituted with a nitrogen monoxide group and (ii) a compound that directly donates, transfers or releases a nitrogen monoxide group (preferably as a charged species, particularly nitrosonium); and methods of treatment of inflammation, pain, gastrointestinal lesions and/or fever using the compositions are disclosed. The compounds and compositions protect against the gastrointestinal, renal and other toxicities that are otherwise induced by nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs.

Cette invention concerne des médicaments anti-inflammatoires non stéroïdiens qui ont fait l'objet d'une substitution par un groupe de monoxyde d'azote, des compositions comportant (i) un médicament anti-inflammatoire non stéroïdien qui peut éventuellement faire l'objet d'une substitution par un groupe de monoxyde d'azote et (ii) un composé qui donne directement, transfère ou libère un groupe de monoxyde d'azote (de préférence sous la forme d'une espèce chargée, notamment l'ion nitrosonium). Elle concerne également des méthodes faisant usage de ces compositions pour traiter les inflammations, la douleur, les lésions gastro-intestinales et/ou la fièvre. Ces composés et compositions protègent des toxicités gastro-intestinales, rénales ou autres qui sont induites habituellement par les médicaments anti-inflammatoires non stéroïdiens.
