The present invention provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising azelastine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof including azelastine hydrochloride. Preferred such compositions further comprise one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or excipients that reduce the amount of post-nasal drip, and/or that minimize or mask the unpleasant bitter taste associated with post-nasal drip, of the compositions into the oral cavity, upon intranasal or intraocular administration of the compositions. Especially effective excipients used in the compositions of the present invention are hypromellose as a viscosity modifier and sucralose as a taste-masking agent. The invention also provides methods of treating or preventing certain disorders, or symptomatic relief therefrom, by administering the compositions of the invention to a patient, e.g., for the symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis, non-allergic vasomotor rhinitis, or allergic conjunctivitis. The compositions and methods of the present invention provide significant value in terms of patient acceptability, convenience, and compliance.
La présente invention a trait à des compositions pharmaceutiques comprenant de l'azelastine ou un sel ou ester pharmaceutiquement acceptable de celle-ci comprenant le chlorhydrate d'azelastine, et éventuellement un ou des agents actifs additionnels. Des telles compositions préférées comportent également un ou deux supports ou excipients pharmaceutiquement acceptables qui réduisent la quantité d'écoulement post-nasal, et/ou qui minimisent ou masquent le goût amer désagréable associé à l'écoulement post-nasal, des compositions dans la cavité buccale, lors de l'administration intranasale ou intraoculaire des compositions. Des excipients particulièrement efficaces utilisés dans les compositions de la présente invention sont l'hypromellose sous la forme de modificateur de viscosité et de sucralose sous la forme d'agent de masquage de goût. L'invention a également trait à des procédés de traitement ou de prévention de certains troubles, ou de soulagement des symptômes de ceux-ci, par l'administration des compositions de l'invention à un patient, par exemple, pour le soulagement des symptômes de la rhinite allergique, et la rhinite vasomotrice non allergique, ou de la conjonctivite allergique, ainsi que d'autres troubles. Les compositions et procédés de la présente invention présentent une valeur considérable en termes d'acceptabilité, de confort et d'observance thérapeutique de patient.
