Substantially pure histidine-linked protein-polymer conjugates and processes for their preparation are disclosed. The processes include contacting a protein with an activated polymer under conditions sufficient to facilitate covalent attachment of at least a portion of the polymer strands on histidine residues of the protein and thereafter substantially separating the histidine- linked conjugates from the remaining reactants. Linkage through His-34 of alpha interferon is exemplified.

L'invention concerne des conjugués sensiblement purs de protéine-polymère liés par histidine et leurs procédés de préparation. Les procédés consistent à mettre une protéine en contact avec un polymère activé dans des conditions suffisantes pour faciliter la fixation covalente d'au moins une partie des brins du polymère sur des restes histidine de la protéine et ensuite à séparer sensiblement les conjugués liés par histidine des réactifs restants. On peut citer à titre d'exemple la liaison par His-34 d'interféron alpha.
