A method for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of a viral infection in a subject is provided wherein the method comprises the steps of providing a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising an extract of the fruit of Siraitia grosvenori Swingle and administering the composition to the subject. The fruit from which the extract is derived is Luo Han Guo. The extract comprises at least one thterpene glycoside, which may be in the form of a mogroside compound. The extract has been shown to be effective in the treatment of viral infections such as hepatitis C and HIV. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions comprising at least one triterpene glycoside, or an analogue, metabolite, precursor, derivative, pharmaceutically active salt or prodrug thereof.
La présente invention a pour objet un procédé de traitement et/ou de prophylaxie d'une infection virale chez un sujet, où le procédé comprend les étapes consistant à fournir une quantité efficace sur le plan thérapeutique d'une composition renfermant un extrait du fruit de Siraitia grosvenori et à administrer la composition au sujet. Le fruit à partir duquel l'extrait est dérivé a pour nom Luo Han Guo. L'extrait renferme au moins un glycoside triterpénique qui peut être sous la forme d'un composé de mogroside. Il a été montré que l'extrait est efficace dans le traitement d'infections virales telles que l'hépatite C et le VIH. L'invention concerne également des compositions pharmaceutiques renfermant au moins un glycoside triterpénique, ou un analogue, un métabolite, un précurseur, un dérivé, un sel actif sur le plan pharmaceutique ou un promédicament de ce dernier.
