Disclosed are compositions and corresponding methods for treating fibrocystic breast disease or other breast-related disease or condition. The compositions comprise, per serving or dose, from zero to about 400 ~g selenium, from about 100 mg to about 6000 mg gamma linolenic acid, and about 0.15mg to about 5 mg iodine, with nutritional embodiments further comprising one or more of protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins, and minerals and providing from about 50 to about 1000 kcal of energy per severing or dose. Also disclosed are in-vitro studies showing that certain combinations of gamma linolenic acid, iodine, and/or selenium may 1) inhibit breast cancer or fibrocystic cell proliferation, 2) reinforce the function of tight junctions of endothelial cells and of mammary epithelial cells in estrogen-sensitive conditions, and 3) reduce the risk of vascular invasion by breast cancer cells.

L'invention concerne des compositions et des procédés correspondants permettant de traiter la fibrose kystique du sein ou d'autres maladies ou états associés au sein. Ces compositions comprennent, par portion ou dose, entre 0 et environ 400 ?g de sélénium ; entre environ 100 mg et environ 6000 mg d'acide linoléique gamma ; et entre environ 0,15 mg et environ 5 mg d'iode. Dans des modes de réalisation concernant un aspect nutritionnel, lesdites compositions comprennent un ou plusieurs des éléments suivants : protéines, graisses, glucides, vitamines, et minéraux ; et fournissent entre environ 50 et environ 1000 kcal d'énergie par portion ou dose. L'invention concerne également des études in vitro qui montrent que certaines combinaisons d'acide linoléique gamma, d'iode et/ou de sélénium peuvent : 1) inhiber le cancer du sein ou la prolifération de cellules fibrokystiques ; 2) renforcer la fonction de jonctions serrées de cellules endothéliales et de cellules épithéliales mammaires dans des états sensibles aux oestrogènes ; et 3) réduire le risque d'invasion vasculaire par des cellules de cancer du sein.
