This invention relates to an improved method of preparing an implantable gel or paste for placement between injured bones or placement in bony voids to induce regeneration, and the compositions produced thereby. Specifically, mineral, ceramic, or processed bone particles are coated with a high molecular weight polymer coating material may be a natural or synthetic polymeric material, producing a wettable gel upon exposure to water, saline, or another solution. In storage, the composition will be granular and dry but easily wetted. In use, the material is reconstituted to a viscous malleable paste by the simple addition of water or other medically acceptable solution without the need for aggressive mixing. The paste may be delivered by syringe or manually deposited yet will be resistant to lavage or to displacement by gravity induced flow.
L'invention concerne un procédé amélioré de préparation d'un gel ou d'une pâte implantables à placer entre des os blessés ou à placer dans des vides osseux afin de provoquer la régénération, ainsi que les compositions obtenues. Plus précisément, des particules osseuses minérales, céramiques ou traitées sont revêtues d'un polymère à masse moléculaire élevée capable de former un gel visqueux lorsqu'il est reconstitué avec de l'eau, du sel, du sang autologue, des sérums, ou d'autres solutions médicalement acceptables. Ce matériau de revêtement polymérique à masse moléculaire élevée peut consister en un matériau polymérique naturel ou synthétique qui produit un gel humidifiable lors de son exposition à l'eau, au sel ou à d'autres solutions. Lors de son stockage, cette composition est granulaire et sèche mais facilement humidifiée. Lors de son utilisation, le matériau est reconstitué en une pâte malléable visqueuse par simple addition d'eau ou d'autres solutions médicalement acceptables sans mélange corrosif. Cette pâte peut être administrée en seringue ou manuellement déposée et résiste au lavage ou au déplacement par écoulement gravitaire.
