ABSTRACT A compound for protecting the internal sur- face of a pipeline against corrosion comprises an alloy of sodium polyphosphate or monosubstituted potassium phosphate with the silicate of an alkaline metal or silicon dioxide, taken in the weight ratios 9 - 50:1, respectively. A method of producing this compound resides in mixing sodium polyphosphate or monosubstituted potassium phosphate with the silicate of an alkaline metal or silicon dioxide in the weight ratios 9- 50:1, respectively, the mixture obtained is fused at a temperature of 800 to 1000°C, with a sub- sequent cooling of the resultant alloy up to a vitreous structure and the provision of an end product. A method of protecting the internal surface of a pipeline against corrosion resides in introducing the compound with the concentration of 0.3 to 3.5 mg/l in terms of P2O5 in the operating pipeline for a pipeline with water, or with the concentration of 25 to 250 mg/l in terms of phosphorus in a sea water pipeline.
