The invention involves a thickened compound containing a polysaccharide alkyl ether thickener made up of patterns consisting of at least two different sugar rings. At least one hydroxyl group in each pattern is replaced by a saturated hydrocarbon alkyl chain. The alkyl ether has a molecular weight greater than 200,000; it is a guar gum alkyl ether with a degree of substitution of 2 or 3. The invention also involves the use of this compound in cosmetics, dermatology, veterinary medicine and/or the food industry.
