Modulating agents for inhibiting or enhancing desmosomal cadherin mediated cell adhesion are provided. The modulating agents comprise one or more of: a) a peptide sequence that is at least 50% identical to a desmosomal cadherin CAR sequence; b) a non-peptide mimetic of a desmosomal cadherin CAR sequence; c) a substance, such as an antibody or antigen-binding fragment thereof, that specifically binds a desmosomal cadherin CAR sequence; and/or d) a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide that comprises a desmosomal cadherin CAR sequence or analogue thereof. Methods for using such modulating agents for modulating desmosomal cadherin-mediated cell adhesion in a variety of contexts are also provided.
L'invention concerne des agents de modulation permettant de favoriser ou d'inhiber l'adhérence cellulaire induite par la cadhérine desmosomale. Les agents de modulation comprennent un ou plusieurs de : a) une séquence de peptide qui est au moins 50 % identique à une séquence CAR de cadhérine desmosomale, b) un agent mimétique non-peptide d'une séquence CAR de cadhérine desmosomale, c) une substance, telle qu'un fragment d'anticorps ou d'antigène de celle-ci, qui lie de façon spécifique une séquence CAR de cadhérine desmosomale, et/ou d) un polynucléotide codant pour un polypeptide comprenant une séquence CAR de cadhérine desmosomale ou analogue. L'invention concerne également des procédés d'utilisation de tels agents de modulation de l'adhérence cellulaire induite par la cadhérine desmosomale dans une variété de contextes.
