Nucleotide sequences capable of coding for polypeptides having lectin properties and the corresponding sarcolectin-type polypeptides, and therapeutical uses thereof, are disclosed. In particular, the use of sarcolectin-type polypeptides for stimulating immunity, optionally in combination with interferon or butyroids, is disclosed. The use of specific inhibitors or antagonist peptides enables sarcolectin production to be opposed. Antibodies to said peptides are suitable for diagnostic and therapeutical use.
