Synthetic peptides of the general formula A-B-C-D-(E)p, wherein p is 0 or 1, with an improved resistance to proteolytic degradation by enzymes due to the presence of adjacent amino acids, optionally combined with the substitution of an amide bond (-CONH-) by (Y-N-R18), e.g. aminomethylene (-CH2NH-) and/or modification at the N- or C- terminal end of the peptide. The peptide derivatives stimulate the release of growth hormone from the pituitary.
