A compressed gas switch comprises a first contact piece (1) presenting a hollow wear contact (6) into which inserts, on closing, a wear contact in the form of a rod (7) provided on a second contact piece (2), an insulating nozzle (9) coaxial with the two contact pieces and fixed on the first contact piece (1) of which the neck (10) is, on closing, traversed by the wear contact (7) of the second contact piece and connects a gas compression chamber (11, 13) with an exhaust chamber (14), the wear contact (7) of the second contact piece being also mobile on an axis (3) and is moved in the opposite direction from the wear contact (6) of the first contact piece by a set of rack and pinion gears (30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35) arranged so as to convert to the opposite direction the movement of the first contact piece to the second contact piece. The said rack and pinion gearset is located upstream of the neck of the nozzle such that it is out of the path of the hot gases exiting the cutoff nozzle.

Cet engrenage à crémaillères est disposé en amont du col de la buse de sorte à être situé hors du passage des gaz chauds en sortie de la buse à la coupure.
