The invention is directed to compressed tablets comprising valsartan, microcrystalline cellulose and optionally crospovidone. The weight ratio of the valsartan to the microcrystalline cellulose is from 2:1 to 0.3:1. The microcrystalline cellulose can comprise more than 30% by weight based on total weight of the core of the tablet. The tablet is an oral dosage form for administration of the valsartan.
