ABSTRACT A lamp comprising a tubular quartz envelope having a mounting base of base with a tubular extension in a compression fit around an end of said tubular quartz envelope enhanced by means of said tubular extension cold formed to said one end of said tubular quartz envelope. The cold forming is done by heating the tubular extension, inserting the end of the quartz envelope, and allowing the extension to cool.
