A method and apparatus are provided for performing computed tomography. The method includes the steps of moving (65) one of an X-ray source (50) and an X- ray detector (52) parallel to a head-to-feet axis of a prone patient and collecting data from the X-ray detector (52) as the one of the X-ray source (50) and X-ray detector (52) moves along the head-to-feet axis of the prone patient.
