The present invention is a method of reconciling a first list formed of a first number of first records and a second list formed of a second number of second records. The first list is typically a bank statement including as records the cheques and other transactions affecting the account balance that have occurred during the accounting period for the bank statement. The second list is typically the customer's own list of records including the cheques and other transactions affecting the customer's account balance.
