A computer based event capturing system and method allows the flexibility of capturing variable but unrelated lengths of video image sequences before an event, during an event and after an event. The event capturing system and method stores video images recorded during monitoring in a fixed number of files such that once the maximum number of files to be stored during monitoring has been reached, the oldest file is deleted and the newly captured video image file is stored in a new location in storage. Thus, storage of the files during monitoring has the appearance of a circular format. Video images recorded after the occurence of one or more events are stored in files in a linear format. The number of files stored in permanent storage from those recorded during monitoring is unrelated to the number of files stored after the event. In addition to being unrelated to the number of pre-event files permanently stored, the number of post-event files permanently stored is also unrelated to the total number of files corresponding to the video images captured before, during and after the event. The event capturing system and method also enables local and remote storage and playback capability of video images from multiple locations in an environment.

Ledit système d'acquisition d'événements stocke des images vidéo enregistrées pendant la surveillance dans un nombre fixe de fichiers de telle manière qu'une fois le nombre maximal de fichiers à stocker pendant la surveillance atteint, le fichier le plus ancien est effacé et le fichier contenant les images vidéo nouvellement acquises est stocké dans un nouvel endroit de la mémoire. Par conséquent, le stockage des fichiers pendant la surveillance présente une configuration circulaire. Des images vidéo enregistrées après l'apparition d'un ou plusieurs événements sont stockées dans des fichiers de configuration linéaire. Le nombre de fichiers stockés dans la mémoire permanente parmi les fichiers enregistrés pendant la surveillance n'a aucune relation au nombre de fichiers stockés après l'événement. Outre qu'il n'a pas de relation au nombre de fichiers antérieurs à l'événement stockés en permanence, le nombre de fichiers postérieurs à l'événement stockés en permanence est également sans relation au nombre total de fichiers correspondant aux images vidéo acquises avant, pendant et après l'événement. Lesdits système et procédé d'acquisition d'événements permettent également le stockage local et éloigné et la capacité de relecture d'images vidéo à partir de lieux multiples dans un environnement.
