ABSTRACT For a dynamic balancing machine the values of parameters employed to determine the weight, rim spacing and diameter of a wheel are automatically entered into the balancing machine by a single maneuver of an extensible wand. This simplicity eliminates many opportunities for human error when obtaining the same information otherwise. The wheel balancing machine is of the type having a frame, a device for rotating a wheel to be balanced and a computing device for carrying out calculations, determining the value of a radius of the wheel and determining the distance between the wheel and the machine based on the values of inputs supplied thereto. The extensible wand for entering parameters into the computing device comprises an arm extending between the periphery of the wheel and a point located a predetermined distance from the axis of rotation. The arm defines a ~irst side of a triangle and the predeter- mined distance defines a second side o-f the triangle. A slide pushes the arm a measurable distance so ~hat the arm rests in contact with the wheel and a sensor carried by the frame senses the value of the angle between the two sides of the triangle and the value of the measurable distance. Signals representative of these values are transmitted to the computing device.
