In one embodiment, a computer desk for right-hander or left-hander includes a desktop; legs; two forward first crosspieces; an intermediate second crosspiece of substantially rectangular cross section an intermediate third crosspiece; a rear fourth crosspiece; two parallel support tubes moveably mounted on the first crosspieces; a plate mounted on the support tubes; a fastening unit interconnecting the support tubes and including a fastening element; two parallel frame elements moveably mounted on the third and fourth crosspieces; a sliding tray on the frame elements; and a platform releasably secured to the legs. The fastening element includes a U-shaped frame member adapted to allow the second crosspiece to pass, and a threaded fastener having an end enlargement adapted to fasten the second crosspiece by driving the fastener. In another embodiment, slip resistant sleeves are provided in the holes of the frame elements with the third or fourth crosspiece passing.
