The invention is directed to a computer game device for downloading game programs from a transmission device including a transmission computer. The computer game device comprises a computer game device terminal connected by a communication channel to a host computer in which a plurality of game data are stored in the form of a database. The host computer includes a CPU that processes data in accordance with a program and controls peripheral equipment, a visual display unit that displays the contents of games, a RAM into which data transmitted from said host computer is written, input keys which can be used for a variety of purposes such as the selection of the required game from the game menu transmitted from said host computer, and a coin input unit, into which the charge appropriate to each game can be input. The computer game device terminal accepts input signals generated using the keys when an appropriate coin has been input into the coin input unit. The input keys include a suspension key, the use of which during the course of an unfinished game causes the game to be suspended at that point and a password appropriate to that suspension point to be displayed on the visual display unit. The password is entered for continuing the game at a later point in time. With this arrangement games are easily suspended and can be resumed by entry of the appropriate password.
