In a memory in a computer system, a plurality of buffer zones are defines by a buffer management system. A command defines a number NP of pools of buffers in a public buffer zone, and for each pool, a pool size PS of the number of buffers in the pool and the size BS of the buffers in that pool. The buffer management system is initialized to store, for each buffer zone, the buffer sizes and to cumulate and store the pool sizes. To address a buffer, the buffer management system determines the address of the start of the buffer from the desired pool and buffer numbers, using the stored information. The buffer management system also defines a header at the beginning of each buffer. Checking for out-of-limits conditions can also be provided. Various private buffer zones allocated to respective different clients, can be similarly defined.

Dans une mémoire de système informatique, une pluralité de zones tampon est définie par un système de gestion de tampons. Une commande définit un nombre NP de groupements de tampons dans une zone tampon publique et, pour chaque groupement, une dimension PS de groupement correspondant au nombre de tampons du groupement et une dimension BS des tampons de ce groupement. On initialise ce système de gestion de tampons afin de mémoriser, pour chaque zone tampon, les dimensions des tampons et de cumuler et mémoriser les dimensions des groupements. Afin d'adresser un tampon, ce système de gestion de tampons détermine l'adresse de départ du tampon à partir des nombres souhaités de groupements et de tampons au moyen de l'information mémorisée. Ce système de gestion définit également un en-tête au commencement de chaque tampon. Il peut être également possible de vérifier des conditions hors limites. On peut définir de la même façon différentes zones tampon privées, attribuées à différents clients respectifs.
