A method and system for computer network physical layer analysis is described using signal analysis techniques and beginning with time-domain responses to yield highly quantitative analysis of the computer network's physical layer. Specifically, multiple transmissions are accumulated into a composite response of the computer network link. This composite response is then used as the basis for analysis of the computer network link. Further, an automated process is described for location of an arbitrary termination of a link.

Cette invention a trait à une méthode et au dispositif correspondant permettant d'effectuer une analyse de couche physique dans un réseau informatique au moyen de techniques d'analyse de signal, laquelle méthode débute par des réponses dans le domaine temporel afin d'obtenir une analyse hautement quantitative de la couche physique du réseau informatique. Plus précisément, on réunit plusieurs transmissions dans une réponse composite de liaison du réseau informatique. On utilise ensuite cette réponse composite comme point de départ d'une analyse de liaison du réseau informatique. Cette invention porte, en outre, sur un procédé automatisé de localisation d'une terminaison arbitraire de liaison.
